Akha children (male & female) wear hand-stitched hats shortly after they are born - generally sewn by a grandmother, mother or relative in the village. These head coverings are covered in beads, brightly colored stitches, fabric, yarn, chicken feathers, animal hair and silver - these hats uniquely identify these children as Akha.
