Akha women are meticulous regarding the appearance of their headdresses. Historically, these Lomi Akha women would part their hair drawing it onto their foreheads and tucking it back in behind their ears. In current times, the hair which is seen coming from the front of these headdresses is fake, a part of the headdress itself.
Generally made from black thread, this hair is much easier to keep in place (and for the women who are older, this hair remains black without plucking the gray hairs from their heads - a common practice to this day).
