Akha parents carry their children on their backs, tied on over one shoulder by a simple light fabric called a boo-tay. (burtaeq)
Children are carried like this up to three years of age and often sleep while in the sling on their parent’s or grandparent’s back. Children as old as 8 or 9 will be carried on a back like this if they are sick, injured or need to be comforted.
Also in this photo is a good example of a Toddler’s hat. Akha stitching, black fabric, beads, yarn, silver and coins. The Coins in this image are 80 year+ silver Chinese and Indian Rupees.
